OPEP Certification
The UK Government Offshore Petroleum Regulator for Environment & Decommissioning (OPRED), part of the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ), along with the UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA), developed the UK training standards in accordance with the requirements of the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) International Convention on Oil Pollution Preparedness, Response and Co-operation (OPRC). DESNZ standards are adapted from the IMO Model training courses and tailored to meet the UK's needs.
As DESNZ is responsible for the accreditation of oil spill response training for the UK offshore oil industry, the standards set are specific to operations in the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS) region. As a Nautical Institute (NI) accredited training centre, OSRL is accredited to deliver the full range of UK oil spill response training courses on behalf of DESNZ, primarily delivered in Aberdeen and Southampton.
