Targeted aerial surveillance for rapid, informed response in the UKCS
Our United Kingdom Continental Shelf (UKCS) Aerial Surveillance service is designed specifically for oil and gas operators working within the UKCS region, in line with the UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ, formerly DBEIS) requirements. Available with enhanced membership coverage, this service gives our members access to a dedicated surveillance aircraft operated by 2Excel Aviation.
Based at Humberside Airport, UK, the aircraft can be mobilised within one hour during daylight hours and provides high-resolution, geo-referenced imaging, live video feeds, and real-time tracking. The system is supported by advanced sensors and software that enable detailed oil spill quantification and effective decision-making.
Experienced aircrew work closely with our aerial observers, regularly training together to ensure high standards are maintained. UKCS Members also have access to OSRL’s dedicated dispersant aircraft, meeting the 6-hour Tier 2 dispersant capability requirement.

Aerial surveillance remains one of the foundations of an effective spill response.
This informative field guide is designed to provides practical guidance on conducting aerial surveillance missions. Guiding on how to locate, assess, and quantify oil spills from the air to support effective response decisions.
