Response-ready capping device and subsea incident response toolkit for UKCS operations

The OSPRAG capping device was explicitly developed for subsea wells in the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS), providing a capping solution in the unlikely event of a subsea well blowout. It can be deployed rapidly to the broadest possible range of wells and oil spill scenarios in the UKCS, including west of Shetland. Through enhanced membership coverage, our members operating within the UKCS can access the OSPRAG capping device and subsea incident response toolkit (SIRT).

Designed to seal off an uncontrolled well, the OSPRAG capping device minimises environmental damage and buys valuable time for engineers to develop a permanent solution. It interfaces directly with the blowout preventer (BOP) or wellhead and is located near Aberdeen, ready for immediate mobilisation to the quayside.

The SIRT provides first-response remotely operated vehicle (ROV) debris clearance and intervention tooling, enabling safe and efficient access to the wellhead. Packaged in two 20-foot containers, the toolkit is strategically located in Aberdeen to ensure fast and effective deployment, supporting subsea well response activities.
The capping device and SIRT can integrate into your source control emergency response plan (SCERP), supported by our technical experts.

Lightweight and flexible deployment

Weighing only 46 tonnes, the capping device is suitable for deployment from a wider range of vessels, enabling a rapid response.

Fully ROV-operated systems

All closure mechanisms, including the main bore and side outlet, are ROV operated, eliminating the need for subsea accumulators.

Pre-positioned for rapid mobilisation

Both the capping device and SIRT are strategically located for rapid mobilisation to the quayside in Aberdeen or Peterhead.
